There are obviously quite a few choices on the market, but there are a few specific things that you need to take into account when you are making your purchase:
* Your laptop bag needs a designated laptop only section so that the laptop can be easily viewed on the X-Ray machine.
* In the event your bag needs to be opened, the laptop only section should unfold to become completely visible and lay flat on the belt.
* Avoid having pockets inside the laptop only section as these tend to obstruct the scanner's view of the laptop in question.
* Interior snaps, zippers, and buckles will block the view of the laptop only section.
These are just a few of the things that you will need to take into account, but you need to remember that choosing the right bag can easily make or break your vacation. The biggest problem with choosing the wrong bag is the fact that you could easily find yourself delayed for several hours as TSA questions you or even goes through your bags.
Something to note is that TSA officials know precisely what the interior of a laptop should look like, and they will know whether or not the electronics have been tampered with. They will need a perfectly unobstructed view of the machine to make this determination, and if they cannot, then you will be searched.
While there are plenty of checkpoint friendly bags on the market it should be noted that the bag design will never be endorsed by TSA e ven though they have released specifications for their checkpoint friendly bags. That being the case, you are subject to search, regardless of the bag design. The design will give you a better chance of course, but there are no guarantees in either life or air travel, and this is precisely what you need to remember when you are walking through the airport terminal.
Going through the trouble of finding TSA approved laptop bags might seem to be an unnecessary hassle, but it should be taken into account that the TSA and the FAA are only attempting to keep passengers safe. In the long run there is a strong chance that you would rather land at your destination safely carrying TSA bags than blown out of the sky because someone failed to perform the proper routines.
