Luton - Bedfordshire located close to London, only 30 miles to the north of that great city. A town that is very large in population and rich in history. The Airport in town has been around since 1938 and was once used as a Royal Air Force base during World War II.
Each May they have the wonderful Luton Carnival that comes to town. It is the largest carnival for a one-day event in all of Europe. The location of a large auto factory when Vauxhall Motors was located there. In 2002, they began making only commercial vehicles. Also a location that would become famous for the hats that were made here.
People would be settling here as early as the Paleolithic times. Digs have pulled up many things that date all the way back to 250,000 years ago. There have even been findings that show people from the Mesolithic times and also the Neolithic period as well.
Many burial locations where found by Galley Hill that date back to Neolithic times. The biggest that was found in the area is that of Waulud's Bank. It is a henge that is dated back to around 3000 BC. It seems that from around that time to present there have been settlers in this location, though nothing really huge.
Even signs of Romans have been found in several farmsteads in this location. During the sixth century, the Saxons would make an outpost in the area. Most of the economy in the past would be based on the agriculture in the area. That is until the sixteenth century when brick making would become one of the main industries of this location.
Luton - Bedfordshire has its share of famous people too. Like Clive Barker well known author, sculptor and artist. John Gosling a famous musician and guitarist from Jethro Tull, Mick Abrahams. Even more have been associated with this location at one time of another too, including Diana Dors a famous actress. And earning many mentions n several sketches of Monty Pythons program.
