I was considering getting a fight stick or just stay to my 360 controller?
Starting to get into Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat and I know fight sticks are compatible with Mortal Kombat so is it a good investment?
Its not a bad investment for fighting games, I will say this though. Its not a huge thing for mortal combat, most of those moves work perfectly fine on a xbox 360 controller. For SFIV though which requires more technical moves inputs it can really up your game quite a bit.
I own 8 joysticks, most of which are custom made for or by myself. I do own a fightstick though, however I can not really tell you much about how good it is since I modded it the second I opened it up. I know the buttons that come with it are good but the joystick itself isn't all that great, it will be better then a controller for sure as it gives you a wider throw range. Basically the dpad is so small making hitting a diaganol or the wrong direction so much easier. WIth a stick you have a wider window for each direction so its harder to hit downforward instead of simply forward.
So yeah they are more precise, however it will take you awhile to get used ot it. But once you do moves are so much easier and quicker to pull out. Another neat thing is your finger positioning for the attack buttons. You will be using 4 fingers instead of 1 or 2 which makes comboes easier since you can hit the buttons faster and more precise.
Sticks really do make you better, if you can get used to them. If you were interseted I would recomend the tournament edition stick from gamestop. Its more expensive then the Fight stick but it has higher quality japanese parts. If you don't want to drop that much get the fight stick as it does have decent parts in it and see if you like it. if you do go to www.lizardlick.com and buy the parts from there to upgrade it yourself. You can buy the same joystick and buttons the better one has and then just put them in yourself. Its very easy to do as you just have to and there are tutorials everywhere. Took me 15 minutes when I did it.
