A paintball sniper must choose his gear carefully. Clothing is one thing to take into consideration; a sniper must be invisible. A ghillie suit is ideal for an ambush sniper, but in most cases would be too cumbersome for flanking or holding a forward position that may require much movement. Choose camouflage that closely matches the current playing environment for situations like this. Snipers usually pack light, as well. A more experienced sniper (who's shooting accuracy is better) can carry the least amount of ammo while a beginning sniper may need a little more.
If you're a sniper who likes to lay in waiting for his prey, carrying extra pods of ammo is not a problem. However, as a player who likes to stay on the move, keep in mind that sniper paintball guns are longer and often somewhat larger than others, making them a bit more cumbersome to wield. If you like to hide wearing a ghillie suit as well, remember that these can also be tricky to be able to move in quickly. After playing this position a few times, most players learn how much movement they like during a game and cater their equipment to this.
A sniper's marker is probably the most definitive part of his gear. It should have a long barrel (at least 18 inches - 22 is the max). This extended barrel gives the potential of shooting farther and more accurately. One option for extending barrel length is to add a silencer. Paintball silencers don't actually silence the shot, but they do add 3-4 inches of length to the barrel of the gun. The T68 Gen6 Special Ops Sniper marker comes equipped with an 18" rifled barrel and a silencer, adding another 4 inches of length.
T68 Gen6 sniper paintball guns also come with the 'flexi-air system' buttstock. This is an alternate air system inside the gun that allows an air tank to be held within the buttstock. This is a great configuration for the paintball sniper as it is very low profile. You can also add another tank with a remote line in conjunction with this by adding a piece called a 90 degree one way valve adaptor. This system will give more than enough air for any sniper to hide in the bush all day and pick off opponents.
A good sniper needs either a quality red dot scope or high powered sight. The 3-9x40 scope is popular among paintball snipers and is as powerful as is necessary. Long range hunting scopes aren't necessary as the furthest range of even the best paintball guns is around 300 ft. A scope offset from the gun and dialed in for targets between 150 and 200 ft. is the best configuration for a sniper. A laser sight is another consideration - a sniper may only get one shot, so he has to make it as accurate as possible.
A bipod gives a very stable base for a sniper's gun and is used by many snipers to ensure a steady shot. Some bipods offer a slight swivel that can be used to increase the side to side range of your shooting (rather than having to pick up your gun and re-target). Most bipods also fold and unfold quickly for an easy pack and transport in the event that a sniper has to pick up and run.
Most of a sniper's shots will probably be made while he's laying flat on the ground so it is a good idea to have a gun which has been customized to shoot from a low profile. Shooting this low will mean no bottom air line or drop forwards. By using a remote line, it is possible to attach the air tank to the sniper's back instead of his gun to provide even lower shots. It's also a good idea for the paintball sniper to equip his marker with a low profile hopper; sometimes a hopper sticking out from the top of the gun can give away your secret location.
