How many shots would you get out of an 8gb sdhc mem.card?
I have a Nikon D60 running it on "jpeg large" setting if that helps.
I'm going to U.S, would it be better to have 3 or 4 2gb cards instead, in case of accident etc?
Go with the smaller cards, an 8GB would hold literally thousands of pictures. 1GB at 7MPX is 900 shots.
You don't want all your precious eggs in one basket.
