Games consoles are in a majority of homes, they have become one of the gadgets that a lot of people just can't do without. The fact of the matter is that they can break down and the Playstation 3 is no exception. The PS3 has a few problems that can cause a red blinking light to appear on the console just knowing what they are can help us fix them. Below I will endeavour to explain what the causes are and what we can do to rectify them.
1. Check the cables as a loose one can often lead to your Playstation 3 freezing and blinking red. Make sure that they are securely in place at both ends. It is also a good idea to check them for general wear and tear as it is possible they have been damaged. Also make sure that they do not cause a tripping hazard, if someone trips over the cable then that could cause it to become loose, or worse they could pull your console to the floor.
2. Is your console hotter than normal? Overheating is a major cause of the red light blinking errors. If your console is hot then switch it off immediately for about an hour. If this hasn't solved the problem then you should take a look at the air vents on the console. If they are bunged up with dust this can cause overheating. Ensuring your console can get enough air is also a good thing to consider especially during long gaming sessions.
3. It is a possibility that your machine has a hard drive error. It can be something like it has wiggled loose when you have bumped your console. The way to resolve it is by removing the hard drive. This really is easily done by removing a couple of screws and unclipping the drive. If you are uncertain about this you can find video instructions on YouTube and other sites like it. You will need to remove it a couple of times and this should stop the red light error.
4. If none of these solutions have helped it is possible that there is an error with the motherboard inside your console. This can be fixed in one of two ways. The first involves sending your console back to Sony for repair, being without it for about 6 weeks and having to pay around $150. If that doesn't seem like the right answer for you then you could try fixing this issue yourself. Using a Playstation 3 repair guide it can be accomplished easily. The guide I would recommend is Rob Sheffield's PS3 light fix. He has helped thousands of gamers fix their consoles over the years. The guide itself is jam packed full of information and videos that will make the repair a piece of cake.
