Night time potty training is an important part of the potty training puzzle, yet it's an area that's largely out of a parent's control once your toddler is asleep.
While potty training at night, start the winding down process with your toddler by not giving him or her any liquids at least 1 hour before they go to sleep; this is crucial!
It's usually wise to let your toddler continue to use disposable diapers while night time potty training at least for the first few nights, until you see he or she is able to completely stay dry at night while sleeping for a few consecutive nights.
When your toddler appears to be ready, switch to cloth training diapers. With these he or she will feel far more uncomfortable when an accident occurs, especially if it's the poopy kind!
Understand; there will be some accidents. Be careful not to show your toddler your displeasure or frustration; this will, more than likely, retard your toddler's progress. Your toddler wants to succeed just as much as you do, and, in truth, your toddler wants to please you while potty training.
Consider buying one of the many available mattress pads to protect and preserve the cleanliness of your toddler's mattress, and place it properly underneath the sheets.
If upon awakening you find your toddler has created a mess, simply collect the mattress pad and sheets, and throw it into the wash; no yelling or screaming! It's perfectly normal for a potty training toddler to have accidents.
