Every gamer has their own opinion as to which gaming system is superior. When comparing the qualities of the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 systems, much confusion and angst can arise as to which is superior. In reality, each system is good in its own right. The value of each system can only be quantified by the features it holds. Also, there are certain "x factors" such as the feel of the controller in one's hand, the color/shape of the system and pride of ownership that are not so well defined. The two companies, Microsoft and Sony, have been fighting for market share since the dawn of the millennium.
A large factor in choosing between these systems involves looking at the cost of online play. Many games have both a single player and online mode. With the Playstation 3, you do not have to shell out a monthly fee in order to play online with other people. The Xbox 360, on the other hand, requires a monthly subscription to their Xbox Live Gold program. The upgrade to Gold membership allows anyone to connect to the internet. It costs are modest, but this fee can play a factor for gamers on a budget.
The Xbox 360 is able to play DVDs, but is not capable of playing Blu Ray movie disks. Playstation's disk drive can play both. Essentially, you are getting a Blu-Ray player, DVD player and gaming machine all wrapped up into a single system. This feature alone is often the deciding factor that sways people over to Sony's side.
As far as graphics go, both systems are comparable. They can both play any compatible next generation game with limited interruption or jittery play. Both systems have compatibility to play older games from previous systems, such as the Playstation 2 and original Xbox.
Parker is an Xbox 360 fan, but appreciates the features of the Playstation 3 as well. He spent many hours comparing the Playstation 3 vs Xbox 360 before making a purchase.
