When I a was young there was nothing like gathering together with some of my best friends and playing Sonic the Hedgehog all day long. But as I grew older and gaming systems became more and more advanced it seems that the game I loved the very most had become dated. Sure Sega tried to keep up with The Sony PlayStation and the Xbox but for some reason all of there attempts failed. So after the failure of the Sega Saturn and the Sega Dreamcast, Sega decided to throw in the towel on making gaming systems for good. I wish I could say that this was a bad idea but at the time it was not. It was what was best for the company at the point.
Now all of a sudden rumors have been swirling around the gaming industry that Sega Sammy wants to try their hand at creating consoles once again. The new gaming system that everyone is anxiously waiting for is to be called the Sega RingEdge. This version will be the actual console and then they will have the RingWide which will be made for arcade games. This is a very big deal to me. It reminds me of how Sega led the gaming industry into the 90s with the first real 16 bit console, the Sega Genesis/ Mega Drive. It seems to me as if they have set out to do this once more with the Sega RingEdge.
Will Sega lead us into a new generation of gaming once more? I sure do hope so. Their company has always been very respected as far as the gaming world is concerned and it will be a great thing to see happen. We can only hope that this happens this year. Keep your fingers crossed.
