Many horse race system supporters spend their lives searching for, the holy grail of horse racing, the perfect fool proof system. Many very bright people have worked long and hard to produce such an object but all have in the long run failed.
Of course there have also been many shysters, rogues and vagabonds who keep appearing and offering "fools gold" to the gullible and unworldly. However, the simple truth is that there never can be and there will never be the perfect horse racing system. This though should not deter you from using systems to improve your chances of making a profit from your betting activities.
Much depends on how you define a system. For some it is something which involves little time and almost instantly produces the name of a horse to back or lay. It may well be of the "always back the top weight in a handicap " variety or low numbers always win at Chester so back the horses drawn low at that course.
Other systems can be far more complex and involve time and effort to apply the rules and filters. However, no matter how complex or complicated a system is there is no guarantee that it can be successful all the time.
The problem with many system users is that they will not accept this simple fact. All systems no matter how good they are will have unexplainable poor runs. There is one system, which I will not name that has been really successful over a 20 month period. It had only 2 losing months during that time and they were very small loses compared to the gains in wining months. It involved placing lay bets on the Betfair Exchange and then out of the blue 5 out of 7 horses selected as lay bets went and won their races creating a big lose. I am sure over the coming month this system will return to profit but I wonder how many of its followers gave it up after that experience.
A systematic approach is a sensible way to successful betting but only if you approach it in a professional manner. If you think of the way in which a stockbroker works it can be a good role model for the punter. Just as a stockbroker builds up a portfolio of shares a punter should do the same with horse racing systems.
There are systems designed for specific types of racing such as the flat or national hunt. There are also systems for backing horses and others for laying them. By using a balanced range of systems and not just relying on one specific system you are spreading your risk and hopefully if one goes through a bad period the others will make up for it.
To be successful using horse racing systems you need to stop searching for the unobtainable. Disregard the hype and unsubstantiated claims and search for 3 or 4 reliable systems that will give you a steady long term profit. After all 4 obtainable small profits each year has got to be better than the "pie in the sky" fantasy profits offered by some of the less scrupulous shores racing systems sellers.
