Why does a liquor store use white, unmarked cardboard six-packs to sell their bottled beer?
A local liquor store often times has popular beer such as Budweiser, Heineken, Miller in their cooler in white six-pack cardboard containers. They write the kind of beer the container is holding with a black marker. Are they breaking up cases and selling as six-packs? If so, is that legal?
Yes, it's legal. In the store I work in, we have to break up 12 or 18 packs every week to make more 6 packs. Usually we just do it with the cans, but every so often, when the 6 pack bottles of a brand is back-ordering at the distribution, the vendor will bring us boxes to repack larger cases into 6 packs. I think the white box is a little strange, since the vendors bring us extra boxes that are the same as what the beer comes in anyway, but maybe the store you go to just buys generic boxes so they don't have to deal with asking the vendors to bring extra boxes, which can take a while sometimes.
